[ARCHIVED] Job Opportunity: Patrol Officer

Notice is hereby given that the Civil Service Commission of the City of Greenville, Darke County, Ohio, will hold a written examination for the position of Patrol Officer for the Police Department of the City of Greenville, Ohio, at 8:00 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the Greenville High School, 100 Greenwave Way, Greenville, Ohio 45331. 


Applicants must have attained the age of 21 on or before the date of the written examination. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and have a high school diploma or GED as of April 23, 2023. Applicants must be citizens of the United States of America or have legally declared their intentions of becoming United States citizens. Salary ranges from $49,233.60 to $69,409.60 annually, plus benefits.

 

Any interested person can obtain an application online at cityofgreenville.org or from the Office of the Mayor, City of Greenville Municipal Building, 100 Public Square, Greenville, Ohio 45331, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday and from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Fridays. The application must be completed and returned to the Office of the Mayor no later than 4:00 PM on April 12, 2023, to be eligible to take the examination.

 

Job Description: The employee works under the direction of the Chief of Police of the Greenville Police Department to patrol assigned areas, protect lives and property, enforce laws and prevent crime, respond to a variety of complaints and emergency calls, enforce traffic laws, apprehend criminal violators, prepare and maintain reports as well as other records and documents, and perform other numerous and varied law enforcement, public safety and public service duties. 

 

Requirements:  A photo ID issued by a government agency must be presented to gain admission to the examination. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the written examination and receive any credits.  The candidate(s) considered for appointment shall be further required to submit to and pass a medical examination; psychological examination; a background check; a drug screening application; a polygraph examination; and a physical fitness test prior to employment. 

 

Addition of Credits:  Only one additional earned credit will be permitted for an applicant. A notarized copy must substantiate each claim of course completion. 

Military Credits Include:

  • 20% for Uniformed Service.  Applicant must be a resident of the State of Ohio and submit a copy of their certificate of service or honorable discharge from active duty with completed application.
  • 15% for a reserve component of the armed forces (including the Ohio National Guard).  Applicant must submit proof of completion of initial entry-level training with completed application.

Credits for a Degree in Criminology or Criminal Justice Include: 

  • 5% for an Associate Degree; 
  • 10% for a Bachelors Degree; 
  • 15% for a Masters or Doctorate.

In order for an advanced degree to earn additional credit, it must be issued from an accredited college or university.

       Earned OPOTA Certificate Credit:  20% 

 

Those candidates receiving a passing grade on the written examination shall be required to submit and pass a physical ability test which shall be conducted on April 22, 2023, following the written exam.
