Education System

From preschool through adult education, Greenville students receive a solid mix of academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs whether it is from the public schools or private schools.

Greenville City Public Schools system is committed to providing modern facilities with state-of-the-art equipment. Teachers institute innovative teaching techniques and special programs are offered for gifted as well as disabled students. All these programs prepare students for a positive and productive future. The school system consist of four elementary buildings (K-5), a middle school (6), junior high (7-8), and high school (9-12).

St. Mary School offers Catholic and academic classes for students kindergarten through eighth grade. Students benefit from the small classes and do very well when they enter the public school system after graduating from the eighth grade. Many extracurricular opportunities are offered within the school and St. Mary's Church as well as with Greenville Public Schools.

DeColores Montessori School currently has an academic program for preschool through sixth grade and is in the process of adding grades seven and eight. The hope is to graduate the first eighth grade class in 2002. Students at the school use hands-on learning methods and are given more freedom to work at their own pace. With the guidance of the teachers, academic goals are set and accomplished by the individual student at a rate which they are capable.

Anthony Wayne School is a special education early childhood school that gives specialized training and education to children 0-5 years old. They assist children who are developmentally delayed, physically handicapped, or "at risk." By state mandate, they also accept some children who do not have these needs, however, all children must be evaluated before they are accepted.

Wayne Industries, Inc. offers industrial work for adults with severe learning or development disabilities. It provides training for work, communication, and independent living so that these adults can have freedom to run their lives.

Edison Community College's
Darke County Center, conveniently located in Greenville offers advanced educational opportunities. The college's business and industry division offers customized, contract training taught in the employment setting or on campus

Advanced educational opportunities are also available at nearby University of Dayton; Wright State University, Dayton and Celina; Sinclair Community College, Dayton; Miami University, Oxford; Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana; Earlham College, Richmond, Indiana. These excellent schools are all within an hour driving distance of Greenville.
