Planning & Zoning

The Planning and Zoning Department, located on the first floor of the Municipal Building, also known as the City Building, encompasses a multitude of functions and purposes for the community.

Duties

First and foremost the Planning and Zoning Department is responsible for the design, bid preparation, construction, and administration of public capitol improvements by the City. It also oversees and approves privately developed improvements that later become part of the City's overall infrastructure. Examples of each of these improvements can be seen in the Planning and Zoning Department's Annual Report to the Mayor.

Permit Process

In addition to capitol improvements the department administers the permit process included within the contents of the Greenville Zoning Ordinance. Samples of a permit and guidelines can be found in the permit section. The department is responsible for follow-ups on each permit for compliance with setbacks, size and height of structures and fences. Address, utility and zoning are just a few of the maps this department maintains and updates.

Planning & Zoning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Department also functions as an administrative and advisory staff to the Planning and Zoning Commission for new development. All subdivision records and minutes are located here.
